What makes a good neighbor? At the China-South Asia Cooperation Forum in Kunming, where China and its neighbors gather, I set out to explore that question. Along the way, I met a Pakistani journalist who spoke of peace and mutual respect, a Sri Lankan editor who recalled China's support during difficult times, and Indian artists who view cultural exchange as a way to build lasting friendships.

Through their stories, they offered something more powerful than policy: genuine human connection.
