The short film "The Returning Island" (2023), supported by the "2024 Maritime Guangdong Young Director Support Program" (hereinafter referred to as the Maritime Guangdong Program), was honored as an Excellent Short Film at the 2024 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA) College Student Film Week. The awards ceremony took place on the evening of November 23rd during the Film Night. Notably, Zhuang Canjie, the director of the film, also received the same accolade for his other short film, "Listen."
The 2024 GBA CollegeStudent Film Week received an impressive 1,132 submissions from students nationwide, including 74 scripts, 256 reviews, 442 narrative short films, 244 documentary shorts, and 116 animated shorts.
During theFilm Night, a selection of outstanding works by university students stood out, with students and faculty representatives from 16 Guangdong universities and seasoned professionals from the film industry in attendance. Zhuang's works, "The Returning Island" and "Listen", were both awarded in the "An Attitude" short film competition category, which encourages students to utilize innovative technologies and boundless creativity in their original filmmaking endeavors.

Zhuang Canjie, one of the 11 young directors of the 2023 Maritime Guangdong Program, has seen "The Returning Island" reach global audiences within overseas Chinese communities, where it has garnered widespread acclaim. Employing a fantastical narrative approach, the film tells a poignant story of reconnecting with cultural roots across the Taiwan Strait.
Prior to this festival, "The Returning Island" had already earned numerous accolades, including Best Director at the 4th Asian Chinese Film Festival, Outstanding Narrative Short Film at the 12th China Student Television Festival, Annual Creative Short Film Award at the 2024 Jintongxiang Children's Film Week, First Prize in the Narrative Film Section of the 17th Shanghai University Student TV Festival, First Prize in the Creative Short Film Section at the 1st Intangible Cultural Heritage Film Innovation Competition, Bronze Lion Award at the 5th China (Cangzhou)Fine Traditional Culture Network Film Festival, First Prize in the Narrative Film Section at the Henan Film and Television Schools Annual Excellence Promotion Event.

"This is truly a season of harvest, but receiving these two recognitions in my home province of Guangdong feels particularly meaningful," Zhuang shared in an interview. "The youth filmmaking community in the GBA has been thriving in recent years, and I am proud to be part of this dynamic group."
"The Returning Island" is a mixed-media work that combines live-action and animation. Zhuang revealed that the film's animation director, Xu Quanyi, was also the visual development artist for"Into the Mortal World," a critically acclaimed animated film from Guangdong. Notably, an outdoor screening of "Into the Mortal World" served as the grand finale of the Film Night.
Looking ahead, Zhuang expressed his continued dedication to collaborating with like-minded creators in the GBA to produce more films that showcase the region's unique cultural identity.

山海计划短片《珊瑚她在等》获大影周优秀短片荣誉，导演庄灿杰双喜临门
由“向山海走去”青年导演创作扶持计划（以下简称山海计划）扶持拍摄的短片《珊瑚她在等》（2023），在11月23日晚举行的2024粤港澳大湾区大学生电影周暨第20届广州大学生电影展“晚风FUN映”电影之夜上获得优秀短片荣誉。值得一提的是，影片导演庄灿杰的另一部短片《你听》也收获了该荣誉。
2024粤港澳大湾区大学生电影周暨第20届广州大学生电影展，面向全国高校的在校学生进行了广泛的作品征集。活动共征集到剧本74部、影评256部、剧情类短片442部、纪录类短片244部、动画类短片116部，各类作品总计1132部。
在“晚风FUN映”电影之夜，一批优秀的大学生短片、剧本和影评从征集作品中脱颖而出，获得荣誉，来自广东省内16所高校的师生代表和多位电影业界的资深人士共同见证了这一属于青年电影人的荣耀时刻。其中，庄灿杰作品《珊瑚她在等》《你听》在“一种态度”短片征集单元中，获优秀短片荣誉。该单元鼓励学生们运用最新技术和无限创意拍摄原创作品。
庄灿杰是2023山海计划的11位青年导演之一。他的山海计划短片《珊瑚她在等》曾随山海计划“出海”，在世界华人华侨社群中广泛传播并受到好评。片中，庄灿杰用一种奇幻的手法，讲述了一个动人的跨越海峡两岸的寻根故事。
在2024粤港澳大湾区大学生电影周暨第20届广州大学生电影展之前，《珊瑚她在等》已屡获奖项肯定，包括第四届亚洲华语电影节最佳导演奖、第十二届中国大学生电视节优秀剧情短片奖、2024金童象儿童电影周年度创意短片奖、第十七届上海大学生电视节剧情片单元一等奖、首届非遗影像创新大赛创意短片单元一等奖、第五届中国（沧州）中华优秀传统文化网络微电影盛典铜狮奖、河南省影视院校高等学会年度推优活动剧情片单元一等奖等。
“这是一个收获的季节，但能在家乡广东参加大影周的活动并获两项肯定，感受还是很不一样。”庄灿杰接受记者采访时表示，“近年来粤港澳大湾区的青年影视创作力量很蓬勃，作为其中的一分子，我感到非常骄傲。”
《珊瑚她在等》是一部结合了真人和动画的作品。庄灿杰透露，该片的动画导演徐全艺也是粤产高分国漫《落凡尘》的视觉开发艺术家，负责了后者大部分场景的美术设计。而《落凡尘》的露天放映，正是“晚风FUN映”电影之夜的“压轴节目”。
庄灿杰透露，他目前的工作计划仍是与志同道合的粤港澳大湾区创作者一起，创作出更多具有湾区特色的作品。
